April 2003 AAOS Report
New Web site offers reports on diversity, orthopaedic issues
The AAOS' "Diversity in Orthopaedics" Web site, launched
in January 2003 ,will be continually expanded to capture
current diversity issues. Created by the AAOS' Diversity
Committee, the site is funded by a grant from Pfizer/Pharmacia.
On the site, AAOS will reflect on diversity in orthopaedics
and its importance to modern medicine and the delivery
of culturally competent health-care. The Web site was
created to address the needs of medical students, orthopaedic
surgeons and residency program directors. The Web site
provides information on applying for residency, the
importance of mentoring as well as news on orthopaedics
as it relates to issues of diversity. Practicing orthopaedic
surgeons can request a recruiting videotape that was
developed by the Diversity Committee to cultivate medical
students' interest in choosing orthopaedics. The site
will keep orthopaedists current on orthopaedic research
opportunities. The site will soon add details about
the Diversity Symposium and the Diversity Award.
