April 1998 AAOS Report
Continuing medical education credits now can be earned
online with the introduction of the 1996 Orthopaedic Special Assessment
Examination, Shoulder and Elbow (OSAE) and "Reducing Professional
Liability Risks" courses on the Academy’s home page
in the "Medical Education" section at http://www.aaos.org.
The online OSAE includes questions on the nonsurgical and surgical
management of injuries, degenerative problems, arthroplasty and
sports-related disorders of the shoulder and elbow. "Reducing
Professional Liability Risks" focuses on the Committee
on Professional Liability’s work with closed-claims studies
and the publication Managing Orthopaedic Malpractice Risk.
Only Academy members can access the online OSAE and
"Reducing Professional Liability Risks" by logging
on with their AAOS identification numbers. OSAE meets the criteria
for 10 hours in Category 1 or Category 2 of the American Medical
Association’s (AMA) Physician Recognition Award. "Reducing
Professional Liability Risks" meets the criteria for two
hours of Category 1 credit of the AMA’s Physicians Recognition
Award. The cost to enroll in the online OSAE shoulder and elbow
examination is $55; orthopaedic surgeons who would like to receive
a printed copy of the exam will be charged $80. "Reducing
Professional Liability Risks" is available at no charge
to Academy members.
