Information on physician unions available
The Office of the General Counsel has compiled and made available
background information on physician labor unions. The packet of
materials contains information about the Quality Health Care
Coalition Act of 1999 introduced by Rep. Tom Campbell (R-Calif.)
that would allow doctors to negotiate jointly with managed care
organizations while enjoying the same antitrust exemption that
labor unions currently have; American Medical Association and
Department of Justice activities in this area; and numerous
news items on recent developments.
