August 1997 AAOS Report
57,000 visits recorded on AAOS home page
The Academy's home page, now entering its third year of operation,
is attracting a soaring number of visitors in the U.S. and around
the world. Latest data show there were more than 57,000 visits
in June, a 400 percent increase from a year earlier. Sixty-five
percent of the visitors were from the U.S.; others were from countries
such as Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Israel,
Brazil and Japan. New useful features on the home page include:
- Password-protected discussion groups. Private discussion
groups on hip and knee, orthopaedic rehabilitation and sports
medicine have been added to the home page. These discussion groups
only are accessible to Academy fellows, candidate, orthopaedic
resident, international affiliate, associate and honorary members.
- Find your elected representatives. Individuals can
obtain the address, telephone number, fax number and e-mail and
web site addresses of their elected officials.
- MEDLINE. A link to the National Library of Medicine's
MEDLINE allows individuals to conduct MEDLINE searches at no cost.
- Take the CODE X Guided Tour. Individuals can
preview the Academy's new CD-ROM program, CODE X. CODE
X is a coding database that allows orthopaedic surgeons
to cross reference and integrate CPT, ICD-9, Global Service Data
and RVU data.
- Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons
abstract translations. Review translated abstracts in English,
French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish.
These new additions can be found in the "What's New This
Week" section. The home page address is http://www.aaos.org.
