March 1999 AAOS Report
Association board adopts statements
At its meeting in February, the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons
(Association) Board of Directors approved updating the Position Statement
on Safety Belts and Other Restraints of Motor Vehicle Occupants and the
Position Statement on Helmet Use by Motorcycle Drivers and Passengers
and Bicyclists. The board heard a report from Alan H. Morris, MD, chairman of the Council on Health Policy and Practice, on the development of Evaluation and Management (E/M) coding guidelines. He said the guidelines may not be in effect until January 2000, at the earliest. The board also approved the creation of an orthopaedic political action committee within the Association's committee structure. In addition, the board asked the Board of Councilors to study the issue of late resolutions submitted for consideration at Annual Meeting business meetings.
