Start making plans for 2005 Annual Meeting
The 2005 AAOS Annual Meeting will convene in Washington, D.C. The 72nd meeting of the AAOS will take place from Feb. 23-27, 2005, in the new Washington Convention Center.
The opening ceremony will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 23 beginning at 4 p.m. AAOS President Robert W. Bucholz, MD, will deliver remarks and welcome Spain as the AAOS 2005 Annual Meeting Guest Nation.
The induction of new members will be held on Thursday, Feb. 24, beginning at 10:30 a.m. At 11 a.m., guest speaker Ronan Tynan, one of the “Irish Tenors,” a physician and champion of disabled athletes, will speak about his life experiences and sing to the gathering.
Stuart Weinstein, MD, will present his first vice-presidential address on Friday at 8 a.m. during the ceremonial meeting. Guest speaker Dave Barry, a nationally syndicated columnist and well-known humorist, will follow at 9 a.m. The Annual Business Meeting and a Town Hall meeting will immediately follow Mr. Barry’s presentation.
The Program Committee and the Instructional Course Committee have developed a remarkable program, with 435 original scientific papers, 479 poster presentations, 34 symposia and 180 instructional courses. The Exhibit Committee has selected 78 scientific exhibits and more than 400 technical exhibits for display.
Other educational programs will include a session for residency and fellowship directors presented by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Residency Review Committee (RRC) on Thursday, Feb. 24, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. G. Paul De Rosa, MD, and Steven P. Nestler, PhD, will report on recent Board and RRC activities, followed by a question-and-answer session. Please note that the ABOS will no longer offer its recertification exam at the AAOS Annual Meeting.
On Friday, Feb. 25, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., a free “Orthopaedic Educators Update” will be held. Faculty includes Laurel C. Blakemore, MD; Edmund R. Campion, MD; Stephen J. Pinney, MD; John F. Sarwark, MD; and Dan Pratt, PhD. This session will focus on emerging issues and trends involving orthopaedic education.
