$50,000 grant awarded to OKO

Orthopaedics Knowledge Online (OKO), the Academy's cyberspace library of orthopaedic information and current surgical techniques, recently was awarded a $50,000 grant from Smith & Nephew Endoscopy. The educational grant will be used in the development of the sports medicine section.

In addition to the grant, Smith & Nephew has also supplied video on meniscal repair and rotator cuff repair for the site.

“Using this Web site, orthopaedic surgeons can rapidly focus their review and search process by accessing almost any information they need through just one convenient source,” said Dr. Grana. “Each topic follows a standard format that reviews the fundamentals of the condition or injury presented, as well as pertinent diagnostic approaches, relevant studies, management options, complications, pearls and pitfalls, controversies, and most importantly, video demonstrations of several surgical techniques.”

The most recently added topics focus on articular cartilage defects (sports medicine) and open fractures (trauma). A new feature is the OKO bookstore, which enables users to search, purchase and download articles from five volumes of AAOS Instructional Course Lectures. Currently, OKO features nearly 50 different topics.
