AAOS launches media campaign for injury prevention

The AAOS launched, at the 2000 Annual Meeting, its first multimedia public service education campaign with television, radio and print components, aimed at increasing awareness of injury prevention and maintaining bone, muscle and joint health. The public service announcements (PSAs) focus on playground safety, osteoporosis and sports injury prevention that have been developed as part of the "Prevent Injuries America! Move Better. Play Better. Live Better." program. The comprehensive campaign includes three print ads, a television spot with 60, 30 and 15 second versions and a radio announcement in both 60 and 30 second lengths. More than 12,000 news outlets in the U.S., including broadcast and cable television, radio, newspapers and magazines, have been sent the Academy's PSAs. And a backlit display ad of the sports injury PSA has been distributed to 100 airports across the country. Thirty state orthopaedic societies have included their society tagline on the television PSA. A special version of the print ads designed with extra space for personalized information is also available to Academy members. The print ads have been produced as four-color posters and postcards. All campaign materials and a "how to use" manual are available upon request for use by Academy members in their practices or in a variety of public relations applications by contacting Pat Julitz, AAOS, Public and Media Relations, (800) 346-2267, ext. 4036 or by email julitz@aaos.org.
