April 2003 AAOS Report

ACPOC will hold its annual meeting in May

The 2003 annual meeting of the Association of Children's Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinics (ACPOC) will be held May 14-17 in St. Pete's Beach, Fla. A symposium titled "A comparison of treatment protocols receiving botulinum toxin for spasticity" will consist of two lectures followed by a panel that includes physicians from pediatric specialties (neurology, physical medicine, rehabilitation and orthopaedics). The symposium will update current research and evidence-based practice in the use of botulinum toxin as a treatment option for reducing spasticity in children with cerebral palsy. The presenters will also review practice specific criteria used in patient selection, dosage and timing. Paul Kornberg, MD, will discuss the management of spasticity in cerebral palsy with botulinum toxin. Tampa Shriners Hospital will present the multidisciplinary treatment of three patients with congenital diagnoses resulting in complex orthopaedic impairments.
