April 2004 AAOS Report

Let the Body Almanac be your patients' guide

The Body Almanac: Your Personal Guide to Bone and Joint Health at any Age is a musculoskeletal self-help book for patients that helps identify and treat common conditions of the bones, joints and muscles. Each condition described in The Body Almanac includes concise information, such as signs and symptoms, treatment options, pain expectations, when it's time to call a doctor, follow up, illustrated exercises, anatomical diagrams, checklists and safety and prevention tips.

The book is a useful tool to involve patients in their own healthcare programs by demystifying the musculoskeletal system, its care and maintenance, says co-editor Ramon L. Jimenez, MD. The other editors were Letha Y. Griffin, MD, PhD; Glenn B. Pfeffer, MD; and John F. Sarwark, MD.

The soft-cover guide is priced at $19.95, and volume discounts are available for AAOS members. Members also can receive a free promotional kit to help promote the book. The kit includes a copy of The Body Almanac, three colorful posters, two easel-backed display signs for the lobby area and 25 ergonomic grip-strengthening jar openers to distribute to patients. To order the book, call customer service at (800) 626-6726 or send an e-mail to custserv@aaos.org.
