William W. Tipton Jr., MD, AAOS executive vice president, received the 2001 honorary membership award from the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses (NAON) in June at the organization's national convention in New Orleans. The award is given to an individual who is not a NAON member but exemplifies the mission and vision of the organization . . . James Urbaniak, MD, Duke University Medical Center, has been selected as the winner of the 2001 Bristol Myers Squibb/Zimmer Award for distinguished achievement in Orthopaedic Research. Dr. Urbaniak is the Virginia Flowers Baker professor and chief, division of orthopaedic surgery, and vice chairman, surgery, at Duke University . . . Clive P. Duncan, MD, was named president of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association for 2001-2002 . . . John Bergfeld, MD, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, was elected president of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at the organization's recent meeting in Montreaux, Switzerland.
