AOA finalizes merger with AOS
The American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) announced on July 17 that the executive committee of the Academic Orthopaedic Society (AOS) unanimously approved a motion to integrate the AOS into the AOA; AOS members voted in January 2003 to give the AOS executive committee power to dissolve the organization and to move forward with the integration into the AOA. Since January 2003, the AOA and AOS have worked to convert key activities and develop an effective infrastructure in the AOA that will serve increased academic needs
Dan M. Spengler, MD, has assumed the role of 2003-2004 AOA president. Dr. Spengler is professor and chair of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. The AOA chose Marc F. Swiontkowski, MD, as second president-elect. Dr. Swiontkowski is a professor and chair of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Minnesota.
