Follow the rules when filing a Professional Compliance grievance
There has been a significant increase in the number of formal grievances filed under the AAOS Professional Compliance Program. Grievances under review relate to the Standards of Professionalism (SOPs) on Orthopaedic Expert Witness Testimony. In addition, many fellows have requested information on filing grievances for alleged violations of other SOPs.
Fellows who wish to file a formal grievance under the Professional Compliance Program should review the Grievance Report, SOPs and Professional Compliance Program Grievance Procedures, which are available online. When filing a grievance, fellows are asked to identify specific Mandatory Standards that were allegedly violated and to provide support for their allegations. The Grievance Report must be signed and dated before an administrative review can begin.
Fellows also should be mindful of the effective date of the Professional Compliance Program, which is April 18, 2005. AAOS is precluded from reviewing, hearing or adjudicating matters that occurred prior to this date. In addition, supporting material that pre-dates April 18, 2005, may be redacted from the grievance.
