During its first month of operation, more than 546 individuals logged onto the Academy's on-line computer service. People from all over the world including New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Korea, and Britain have accessed the new system. This month, many new items will be made available. These items include several documents on health policy issues such as how to communicate with elected officials and how to develop state coalitions. A listing of phone and fax numbers and e-mail addresses of all members of Congress also is available. Sections from the Educational Resource Catalog that contain product information about Academy-produced CD-ROMs, videotapes, and Emergency Medical Service publications are available on the system. In the coming months, users will be able to order Academy products when accessing the on-line system. The home page address for the Academy is http://www.aaos.org.
The fax-on-demand system initiated by the Academy in January has achieved similar success. More than 1,812 individuals have requested Academy documents from the system. To date, the most requested document contains information about CD-ROM computer recommendations. Academy members can receive Position Statements, Advisory Statements, Opinion on Ethics, AAOS Report, and Washington Report. Information about the Academy's continuing medical education course schedule also is available. Users can receive the syllabus of a continuing medical education course as well as faculty listing. Also available is information about the Academy's Placement Service.
