Coalition fights Republican bill

The Patient Access to Specialty Care Coalition, in July, distributed a legislative alert to its 133 member groups urging them to contact legislators to point out the flaws in the House Republican patient protection bill. Radio messages in 11 congressional districts of key legislators also were broadcast to communicate the coalition's concerns. The coalition said the bill did not provide a ban on financial incentives, routinely available information about health plans coverage and performance, lawsuits against health plans, access and choice of physician and a point-of-service option. (At this writing, the House has approved the Republican bill; the Senate had not acted on similar legislation.)
