Register now for 2003 Annual Meeting to avoid disappointment

The premier educational event of the year for orthopaedic surgeons is only a couple months away, and registration is running well ahead of totals from last year. To avoid disappointment in not getting your preferred instructional course, plan today to attend the 2003 meeting in New Orleans, which will be held from Feb. 5 to 9, 2003. There will be 32 symposia, 175 instructional courses, 295 papers, more than 500 poster exhibits and 70 scientific exhibits. More than 400 companies will display their products and services in Halls E through I of the Ernest Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.

On Friday morning, a continental breakfast for attendees will be held outside LaNouvelle Orleans Ballroom before the First Vice Presidential Address by James Herndon, MD. Following the First VP Address is Presidential guest speaker, Former Senator Bob Dole who will address the membership as he speaks of his personal history of service. The business meetings will begin at 9:30 a.m.

If you're searching for a new practice opportunity or your practice is looking for an orthopaedic surgeon, then the place to visit is the Placement Center located in Room 284 of the convention center. Be sure to stop by the Resource Center, where you'll find the Academy's collection of publications, electronic media materials and examinations on display and available for purchase, located in Hall D of the convention center. Also in Hall D is the Multimedia Education Center where award-winning programs and videotapes chosen from the 2003 Orthopaedic Surgical Video Library will be presented and hands-on demonstrations of new DVD-ROM, CD-ROM, and Internet programs also will be featured.

A half-day complimentary symposium for orthopaedic residents will be presented on Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Speakers will provide practical information on the legal and business aspects of orthopaedics. Topics will include making the transition from residency to practice, medical malpractice, fraud and abuse, CPT Coding, financial planning, and using PDAs in office practice. A networking reception will follow. To register online for the meeting, visit the AAOS home page at www.aaos.org, select Annual Meeting and click on registration. It's as easy as 1-2! The deadline for advance registration is Jan. 3, 2003.
