Peter Lavine, MD, is the new president-elect of the Medical Society of the District of Columbia. He will become president in November 2003 . . . David S. Weiss, MD, New York City, has completed the first year of a two-year term as president of the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science. The organization promotes medical, scientific and educational activities to enhance the treatment, training, performance and well-being of dancers. Dr. Weiss is the second orthopaedic surgeon to serve as president of the organization . . . Chadwick F. Smith, MD, was recently appointed president elect by La Societe Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopedique et de Traumatologie (SICOT) at its annual meeting in San Diego. Dr. Smith is only the second American member to have been elected president in SICOT's 73-year history and the first American to be elected to the position in the last 40 years. Dr . Smith currently serves as medical director of the International Children's Program at Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital.
