December 2004 AAOS Report

Apply to fill Compliance Program vacancies

Volunteers are needed for two new committees charged with specific responsibilities as part of the new AAOS Professional Compliance Program.

The Committee on Professionalism (COP) oversees all aspects of the AAOS Professional Compliance Program, including the Expert Witness Program. The COP conducts objective, substantive review of complaints following the Professional Compliance Program. Selected COP members will serve on the hearing panel that adjudicates complaints and recommends a professional compliance action to be taken by the Board of Directors. A professional compliance action might include a censure, suspension or expulsion from the AAOS.

The Judiciary Committee hears appeals of the recommendations made by the COP. The Judiciary Committee examines the evidence submitted to the hearing panel, conducts an appeal hearing and presents its own recommendations for a professional compliance action to be taken by the Board of Directors.

AAOS fellows are invited to apply for these committee vacancies, using the KEI process. Fellows holding a JD degree are especially encouraged to apply. Previous experience on the Board of Councilors, COMSS, Membership Committee, Ethics Committee or Professional Liability Committee is preferred. For more information, click on the Council/Committee Vacancies button on the AAOS home page or go to www.aaos.org/kei (login password required).
