“Legacy of Heroes” receives P.R. Award
The AAOS Legacy of Heroes program was honored by PRNews, an influential public relations trade publication, in its first annual Nonprofit P.R. Awards competition. The Legacy of Heroes book was named the best in the “External Publication” category.
The Legacy of Heroes program chronicles the heroism, dedication and sacrifices of the 600,000 medical men and women who served in World War II. Developed to preserve the stories of AAOS members and highlight the advancements in orthopaedics from the war, Legacy of Heroes provides personal, detailed accounts of veterans’ wartime experiences. Program components include a documentary film, two traveling exhibits, a book and Web site.
“Many of the orthopaedic surgeons serving in the Second World War developed medical procedures, inventions and techniques that truly shaped orthopaedics and medical care as we know it today,” said Karen L. Hackett, FACHE, CAE, AAOS’ chief executive officer. “The Academy is honored to receive an award for this incredibly powerful and inspiring program that pays tribute to our veteran orthopaedic surgeons.”
The Academy’s “Get Up! Get Out! Get Moving!” public service advertising campaign, which stresses the importance of physical activity, received an honorable mention.
