December 1996 AAOS Report
Fellows to vote on international member category, resolutions process
Several very important bylaws and resolutions will be presented for fellowship vote at the Annual Meeting. They include bylaw amendments to clarify and modify the Academy's disciplinary process and establish an international affiliate membership category. Currently, the Academy only confers fellowship on qualified orthopaedic surgeons who are certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. If the Academy fellowship adopts the proposed bylaws amendment, all current Corresponding and Reciprocal members will become International Affiliate members of the Academy. In addition, a number of proposed amendments to the bylaws deal with the Academy's resolution process. One submitted resolution deals with Academy resolutions and their binding effect on the Academy. As required by the bylaws, the board also has submitted its recommendations regarding resolutions which were adopted by the fellowship in 1992.
The Resolutions Committee will hold an Open Hearing to discuss the proposed resolutions on Friday, Feb, 14 at 7:30 a.m. Later in the day, the Bylaws Committee will conduct an Open Hearing to receive comments on proposed amendments at 2 p.m. Both hearings will take place in Salon 1-6 of the San Francisco Marriott hotel.
