Students help plan playground
J. Dean Cole, MD, local host of the 67th Annual Meeting in Orlando and second vice president of the Florida Orthopaedic Society, was the cochairman of "Design Day" held at the Magnolia School in Orlando on Dec. 16, 1999. Dr. Cole and Charles T. Price, MD, cochairman, gathered ideas from the school's students, who through the use of crayons and markers, proposed designs for a new, safe and accessible playground that will be constructed at the school. The project is part of the AAOS "Prevent Injuries America" campaign. The AAOS is teamed with the West Orlando Rotary for this project. Attendees at the Annual Meeting, their families, staff, state and specialty groups, industry partners and community volunteers are being encouraged to participate in the construction of the playground on March 14. The Magnolia School serves children in kindergarten through 12th grade who have mental and physical disabilities.
