Bone and Joint Decade Steering Committee Meets
The International Steering Committee for the Bone and Joint Decade met Nov. 17-19 in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, where the minister of health gave the opening address. The theme of the meeting was "Synergy," with several new national action networks being announced, and new members of the steering committee being named, including representatives from Brazil, France, Oman and the United States (Edward D. Harris, Jr., MD, Stanford University). International Steering Committee Chair Lars Lidgren, MD, PhD, of Sweden presented charters to all active national action networks. New Zealand launched the decade on Dec. 5 at Parliament, with an official endorsement by the goverment. International endorsements now number 29, and in the U.S., the number of states endorsing the decade has climbed to 44.
