NIH releases publication on women's health
The Office of Research on Women's Health at the National Institutes of Health recently published "An Agenda for Research on Women's Health for the 21st Century," a six-volume publication resulting from public hearings and a November 1997 scientific workshop, "Beyond Hunt Valley: Research on Women's Health for the 21st Century." Laura L. Tosi, MD, was cochair for the working group on Bone and Musculoskeletal Disorders and Letha Y. Griffin, MD; Jo A. Hannafin, MD, PhD; and Mary Lynn Newport, MD; and Cynthia Shewan, PhD, AAOS director of research and scientific affairs, participated in the workgroup. In 1991, the NIH held a conference and series of workshops in Hunt Valley Md., to develop specific and workable recommendations to advance research activities on behalf of all the women of the United States. The 1997 conference was held to reassess the research agenda and update those goals.
