AAOS President James H. Herndon, MD, has received an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons in London. The Honorary Fellowship is "one of the College's highest awards, to recognise individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Surgery," said a representative of the college.
On Nov. 20, 2003, Alvin H. Crawford, MD, FACS, was inducted into Memphis City Schools' Hall of Fame. The hall honors outstanding alumni who represent Memphis City Schools' 'best and brightest.' Dr. Crawford made his own imprint on history when he was the first African American to graduate from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He has been professor of pediatric orthopaedics at Cincinnati's Children's Hospital for 26 years.
