January 2004 AAOS Report

Medical Liability Reform Toolkit available online

The Academy is making it easy for you to get the necessary support for medical liability reform within your own state. Visit the PACT-Protect Access to Care and Treatment-campaign Web site, beginning Jan. 12, 2004 to download a free "Toolkit" containing a variety of template materials that will help you communicate with your community, your local media and your patients just how serious the issue is-and encourage them to act.
Materials include key message points, letters to the editor, letters to lawmakers, op-eds, media pitch letters, Q&As and a patient brochure. All of the materials can be easily tailored for use in your state just by inserting local statistics, data and anecdotes. Four creative concepts for print advertisements that communicate why patient access to care is in jeopardy without medical liability reform are also available to individual physicians, AAOS members and state orthopaedic societies who want to pursue local ad buys with their own funding.

Your contribution to the AAOS Medical Liability Campaign can help move our efforts forward. Please make your personal or corporate check payable to the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons and send it to AAOS, 6300 N. River Road, Rosemont, Ill. 60018, Attn: Medical Liability. Credit card contributions are also welcome.
