Names in the news

Michael S. Clarke, MD, a 1969 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) medical school, recently created an endowed professorship for the university’s department of orthopaedic surgery. An orthopaedist in Springfield, Mo., Dr. Clarke pledged $550,000 to create the permanent endowment. Dr. Clarke has served as a clinical associate professor at the MU medical school and as an alumni organization governor and a McAlester Society member.

John R. Denton, MD, professor and chairman of orthopaedic surgery at Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers (SVCMC) in Jamaica, N.Y, has been appointed associate dean for the medical centers in the Brooklyn/Queens region.

David D. Lichtman, MD, of John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, has joined the Residency Review Committee for Orthopaedic Surgery.

Captain Dana C. Covey, MD, MC, USN, has been honored by the Burroughs Wellcome Foundation, Ltd. for his work in advancing research that bears upon medicine, surgery, chemistry, physiology, bacteriology, therapeutics, pharmacy and allied health.

New officers of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society are: Eric J. Guidi, MD, president; Joseph T. Moskal, MD, president-elect, David R. Diduch, MD, secretary-treasurer; and John J.Schaffer, MD, immediate past president.
