A Request For Proposal has been issued by the Academy to orthopaedic surgeons and other health care consultants interested in developing course content and serving as faculty for the next series of Academy-sponsored managed care courses. The new courses,"Winning at Risk: Quality Management for the Cost-Effective Orthopaedic Practice under Capitation and other Managed Care Arrangements,"will be held a minimum of eight times in different cities throughout the U.S. The courses are tentatively scheduled to begin February or March 1996. The Academy is seeking orthopaedic surgeons and health care consultants with expertise in the following areas: orthopaedic practice management; managed care contract administration; capitation and other forms of payment under managed care agreements; quality, risk, and utilization management; and cost-effective approaches to orthopaedic care under managed care contracts. Proposals must be received by the Academy on or before July 20. Selection of a team of three to four consultants, including one or two orthopaedic surgeons, will take place in August.
