Coalition receives Spirit Award
The Specialty Societies Care Coalition, of which the Academy is a member, recently received a Certificate of Achievement for Collaborative Excellence in the 1999 American Association of Medical Society Executive's Spirit Award program for its teleconference "First Practice: Strategies for Success." The coalition's teleconference was offered to senior residents, orthopaedic surgeons in fellowships and new practitioners in May 1998, and included information for young physicians about the impact of managed care on career opportunities and business strategies needed to locate a practice. In addition to the Academy, the Specialty Societies Care Coalition includes 13 other national medical organizations. Academy Executive Vice President William W. Tipton Jr., MD, currently serves as chairman of the coalition's Executive Committee.
