Americans lack knowledge of bone health, study says
The National Osteoporosis Foundation released a study in May showing that the public's knowledge of the connection between weight-bearing exercise and strong bones is lacking. The foundation's educational campaign, called Step On It, America, will focus on the importance of weight-bearing exercise to bone health. The survey found that only one-third of Americans engage in weight-bearing exercise for at least 30 minutes, four or more times a week. When asked to identify from a list of activities all that are important to bone health, only 8 percent could do so correctly. According to the survey, nearly half of all adults erroneously believe that weight-bearing exercises require the use of weight-training equipment.
