S. Terry Canale, MD, receives Humanitarian Leadership Award
The Safe America Foundation honored S. Terry Canale, MD, 2000 AAOS president, with its first annual "WorldSafe Leadership Awards" in Washington, D.C. on May 3, 2001. Dr. Canale was awarded the WorldSafe Award for Humanitarian Leadership for the development of the AAOS Public Relations Program and the Prevent Injuries America! campaign, both created under his leadership. The injury prevention campaign included the AAOS's first multimedia public service campaign, the Bone and Joint Camp, the Safe and Accessible Playground Project and "eMotion Pictures: An Exhibition of Orthopaedics in Art." The WorldSafe award recognizes individuals, companies and organizations taking a leadership role in innovation that protects life. The awards are granted in several categories: global safety, Internet safety, transportation, youth, communications, governmental leadership, nonprofit organization, humanitarian leadership, and corporate leadership.
