June 2001 AAOS Report

PSAs in 2001 will promote 'Getting Back in the Game'

AAOS's 2001 Public Service Announcements (PSAs) promote the theme, "Getting You Back in the Game." The campaign features orthopaedic patients who have a disability or who sustained sports injuries or other trauma. These patients all sought help, recovered, and tell their stories with the hope of inspiring others, or offer information that may help prevent injuries. The humorous television commercial features 79-year-old Bill Wellington who, even though he's had double hip replacements, plays on a hockey team, the "Geri-Hatricks." A campaign offers five new print ads covering osteoporosis, sports injury, back pain, lawn mower safety and, in partnership with Arthritis Foundation (AF), osteoarthritis. The AAOS/AF print ad also has been produced for airport advertising. The radio announcement features Los Angeles artist Ruth Snyder as she discusses the impact of osteoporosis on her life.
