June 2003 AAOS Report
Georgia State Orthopaedic Society, Florida executive receive awards
The Board of Councilors State Orthopaedic Societies Committee has for the first time recognized achievement among state orthopaedic societies and their executive directors. Winner of the 2003 State Orthopaedic Society of the Year award and its $1,000 prize was the Georgia State Orthopaedic Society. The Executive Director of the Year award went to Fraser Cobbe of the Florida Orthopaedic Society, who was awarded $500. Selection of the winner of the state orthopaedic achievement award was based on such criteria as the society's achievements and services to members. Executive directors, whose nominations were completed by leaders in their state orthopaedic society, were judged on achievements and the impact of their work. Applications for both awards were reviewed and ranked by a subcommittee of the Board of Councilors State Orthopaedic Societies Committee, with John Drake, MD, chair.
AAOS President, James H. Herndon, MD, presented the now-annual awards at the National Orthopaedic Leadership Conference dinner in Washington D.C. in April. The AAOS presidential line, members of the AAOS Board of Directors and members of the Board of Councilors attended the ceremony.
