AAOS supports JCAHO Preventing Sentinel Events Conference
The AAOS has joined forces with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations’ (JCAHO) to support a series of conferences on Preventing Sentinel Events. Nearly 3,000 sentinel events (unexpected occurrences involving death or serious physical or psychological injury, or the risk thereof) were reported to JCAHO from January 1995 through January 2004. David A. Wong, MD, MSc, FRCS(C), chair of the AAOS Patient Safety Committee, will lead a session on "Implementing the Universal Protocol for Preventing Wrong Site, Wrong Procedure, and Wrong Person Surgery."” The one-day conference will be repeated three times: June 28 in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.; Sept. 6 in Orlando, Fla.; and Sept. 22 in Los Angeles.
