AAOS, KarenZupko offer new introductory coding course

The AAOS and KarenZupko & Associates are offering a new introductory medical record coding course. “Core Competencies in Orthopaedic Coding” is a one-day (6 hours) course that will be offered three times in 2006. The course will provide a thorough introduction to coding principles and payment issues and is geared to new orthopaedic surgeons in practice, new coding and billing staff, and other managerial staff new to orthopaedics.

The course focuses on how to fill out a CMS-1500 claim form, apply principles of evaluation and management (E & M) coding to coding orthopaedic cases, apply CPT™ and ICD-9 codes to orthopaedic cases, correctly use CPT™ modifiers for E & M and surgical codes and differentiate among types of fractures. The first two courses are scheduled for July 26 and Sept. 27; both will be held in Rosemont, Ill. The date and location of the third course will be announced later. For complete course information, go to www.karenzupko.com/workshops or call (312) 642-8310.
