AAOS Report - June, 2006

Bring a communication skills workshop to your practice

The AAOS Communication Skills Mentoring Program (CSMP) is designed to teach the importance of communication and improve patient/physician relationships. The CSMP is the Academy’s response to research that indicates patients view orthopaedic surgeons as “high tech, low touch.” Developed in conjunction with the Institute for Healthcare Communication (IHC), the workshops combine role play and immediate feedback to help enhance your communication skills.

The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery’s Maintenance of Certification process requires a focus on doctor-patient communication and patient satisfaction, which the CSMP provides. You’ll learn communication techniques that you can use throughout your career. An ideal workshop consist of 20-25 participants, which can include orthopaedic surgeons, nurses and physician assistants. CME credits are available.

If you are interested in scheduling a workshop for your practice, please contact Charmain Rachal at rachal@aaos.org.
