Board seeks chair of new Public Safety Committee
AAOS is seeking candidates for the position of chair for the newly formed Patient Safety Committee. The AAOS Board met on Feb. 11 and gave the green light to charges for the new committee. The AAOS Board approved the formation of the committee at its December 2001 meeting. Its mission will be to promote orthopaedic patient safety and to reduce the potential of medical errors that could occur in orthopaedic practice. First Vice President James Herndon, MD, indicated that the committee's charges will range from development of educational programs and advisory statements for MDs to creation of a curriculum on patient safety, public outreach, special alerts to members on breaking news regarding drug or device problems and collaboration with other professional societies. The deadline for submitting an application is March 25, 2002.
