March 1998 AAOS Report

Fellows to get Archives on aging patient

The Academy, with the cooperation and support of the American Geriatrics Society (AGS), has produced a volume of case-based articles entitled Caring for the Aging Patient, the second in a series of publications under the title, Archives of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Kenneth J. Koval, MD, is the editor of the new publication. Contents cover a wide range of topics of interest to orthopaedists treating aging patients, including osteoporosis, elder abuse, acute and chronic dementia, injuries due to falling, joint pain in the elderly patient, polypharmacy issues, depression and post surgical rehabilitation. This second Archives of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons volume will be sent to all Academy fellows and candidate members in March. A third Archives of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, which will present an expanded selection of scientific exhibits from the 1998 Annual Meeting, will be published this summer.
