November 2002 AAOS Report
AAOS studies communication with older patients
The AAOS is participating in a study funded by the NIH to understand how orthopedic surgeons communicate with older patients. The principle investigator, Wendy Levinson, MD, is working with an advisory board of Chicago-area surgeons including Michael Shafer, MD; Gunnar Anderson, MD; William J. Robb III, MD; Chris Dangles, MD, and Frank Phillips, MD. They will be asking colleagues in the Chicago area to participate in the study. The results should enhance educational programs of the AAOS and deepen understanding of effective communication with elderly patients.
