November 2004 AAOS Report

Apply now to serve on Committee on Professionalism, Judiciary Committee

AAOS active and emeritus fellows can now apply for appointment to the Committee on Professionalism (COP) and the Judiciary Committee through the online database of volunteer committee and council openings. It can be accessed at (password login requested). Both committees are charged with specific responsibilities of reviewing, hearing and adjudicating alleged violations of the AAOS Bylaws or the proposed Standards of Professionalism.

The Committee on Professionalism (COP) oversees the AAOS Professional Compliance Program, including the Expert Witness Program, and conducts objective, substantive review of all professional compliance complaints filed by AAOS fellows and members. Selected committee members will serve on the Hearing Panel that adjudicates complaints and recommends action to be taken by the Board of Directors.

The Judiciary Committee, the group that serves as the appellate body for the Professional Compliance Program, will hear appeals to the recommendations made by the COP. The Judiciary Committee makes its own recommendations for action to be taken by the Board of Directors.

Individuals with previous experience on the Board of Directors, Board of Councilors, COMSS, Membership Committee, Ethics Committee or Professional Liability Committee or who hold a JD degree are encouraged to apply. For more information, go to (password login requested).
