November 2004 AAOS Report

New term lengths approved for volunteers serving on councils and committees

Starting with the 2005 cycle, newly appointed and reappointed volunteers serving on councils/committees will serve two-year terms rather than three-year terms. They will be eligible for reappointment once, resulting in four-year appointments. Council chairs will need to determine if positions requiring specific expertise should consist of longer terms. The Board of Directors is sensitive to the time commitment involved with committee service. It is also hoped that by reducing the total time served from six years to four years, more AAOS members will be able to serve. A current list of available volunteer openings on various committees and councils can be accessed at www.aaos.org/kei (password login requested).
