Academy task force to seek areas for quality improvement
The board of directors of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, meeting in Chicago Oct. 1-2, reaffirmed support for outcome instruments and approved the creation of a task force to identify future directions for the Academy in the area of quality improvement. The board approved an evidence-based action plan to ensure that the most significant musculoskeletal health care needs of the nation are identified, addressed and met. The board also approved, in concept, the Alternative Care Committee to identify, gather and evaluate information on complementary and alternative care modalities and provide the information to AAOS members. The Committee on Committees will review charges and placement in the AAOS organizational structure. The board approved AAOS participation in the joint development of a needs assessment survey for developing medical school curriculum objectives and the board endorsed a Team Physician Consensus Statement.
