AAOS members assist in developing radiology guidelines
Laura Tosi, MD, and Robert H. Haralson III, MD, MBA, AAOS executive director of medical affairs, participated with more than 15 physicians in reviewing and developing the American College of Radiology’s (ACR) Appropriateness Criteria™. These are evidence-based guidelines that assist referring physicians and other health care providers in making appropriate imaging or treatment decisions for specified medical conditions. There are currently more than 170 topics developed by expert panels in diagnostic imaging, interventional radiology and radiation oncology.
Dr. Tosi was on the pediatric imaging panel, and Dr. Haralson participated in the development of musculoskeletal imaging topics.
The criteria are available free of charge for individual users on the ACR Web site, www.acr.org Those with an interest in the criteria for other than personal use should contact the ACR for permission and licensing information.
