September 2001 AAOS Report
Public/Media Relations presents no- and low-cost wellness messages
The Public and Media Relations Department has several no- or low-cost resources to help members take musculoskeletal health and wellness messages to the community. The Prevent Injuries America!® initiative, featuring baseball great Cal Ripken, will include a media tour, which will visit several cities nationwide and promote a sports safety message for children and adults; an electronic brochure on preventing sports injuries; radio and video news releases; and a public service announcement produced as a poster. Limited quantities of the Ripken poster are available for a small shipping/handling charge. The Community Orthopaedics Awareness Program (COAP) offers five Powerpoint presentations developed for public audiences: "Osteoarthritis and You," "Understanding Osteoporosis," "Understanding Back Pain," "Sports Injuries," and "Prevent Injuries America!" Also available is a how-to manual, along with scripts. "Getting You Back in the Game," the AAOS's 2001 Public Service Announcement campaign, features postcards and posters.
