John Beaumier, MD, a retired orthopaedic surgeon, received the Service to the Community Award at Marquette University's National Alumni Awards celebration held earlier this year in Milwaukee. Dr. Beaumier still serves as a consultant to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., which he joined in 1993. During his distinguished career, he has made five trips to Bangladesh as a volunteer, the first two trips through Orthopaedics Overseas . . . Bruce Browner, MD, received the Connecticut Orthopaedic Society's "Orthopaedist of the Year" award during the Society's annual meeting on May 16 in Farmington, Conn. Dr. Browner was presented with the award by his colleague, John Fulkerson, MD. Dr. Browner is the Gray-Gossling professor as well as chairman and residency program director, department of orthopaedic surgery, at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmingham . . . The Connecticut Orthopedic Society elected new board officers for 2003-2005 at its annual meeting held in Farmington, Conn. on May 16, 2003. Michael R. Marks, MD, was elected president, and Robert Green, MD, vice-president.
