National Awareness Week promises range of bone, joint activities

The U.S. Bone and Joint Decade’s (USBJD) 2004 National Awareness Week will take place Oct. 12-20. Several states, including Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey Ohio, Washington and Wisconsin, have passed or will pass Decade proclamations. In Ohio the Cleveland Clinic and orthopaedist Michael DeFranco, MD, are involved with the launch of the Decade’s “Protect Your Bones” presentations to high school students. In Kansas, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius will issue a proclamation, focusing attention on road safety. AAOS member Kim Templeton, MD, and other orthopaedic surgeons are working with the governor to plan several special events during the week.
