September 2004 AAOS Report

Monograph will guide you in treating patients with neck pain

Many patients experience neck pain, making it important for orthopaedists to understand the mechanism of neck injuries and evaluations. The new "Neck Pain" monograph, edited by Jeffrey Fischgrund, MD, provides an examination of the pathophysiology of neck pain and flexion-extension injuries. It explores treatment modalities, including pharmacologic management, injection therapy, physical therapy and manipulative techniques as well as imaging studies for acute and chronic neck pain, diagnosis and treatment of whiplash and treatment options. Recommend the monograph to referring providers to give them a sound background in treating neck pain—including family practitioners, physiatrists, neurosurgeons, pain management specialists, physical therapists and chiropractors.
