Just-published ICD-9-CM includes new codes for hip and knee replacement components

The 2006 ICD-9-CM book, available September 1, 2005, contains new and revised diagnostic codes that reflect complications of the components used in hip and knee replacements. It also includes 12 new procedural codes that describe the components being replaced in revision procedures and identifies the type of bearing surfaces. New ICD-9 codes must be used starting Oct. 1, 2005.
