Ballots for the election of the 1996 Nominating Committee were sent to all active and emeritus fellows of the Academy in August. Each ballot contains the names and biographical information of 24 fellows who are candidates for the committee. Fellows are asked to vote for six individuals on the list. The six fellows receiving the largest number of votes will comprise the 1996 Nominating Committee and will present a slate of officers and nominees for other positions to the fellowship during the Academy's Annual Meeting in Atlanta. This years process of electing the Nominating Committee is a change from the previous practice of electing 12 individuals by mail and selecting the six members of the committee by a second vote at the first business session of the Annual Meeting. Completed ballots must be returned before Oct. 1 to the independent agency responsible for tabulating the results. The Academy's Board of Directors has appointed Augusto Sarmiento, MD, to serve as the chairman of the 1996 Nominating Committee.
