More than 40 orthopaedic surgeons already have signed up to participate in the Academy's "Managed Care Watch" program, but more volunteers are still needed. The Academy is seeking orthopaedic surgeons in high-profile leadership roles within managed care organizations, insurance and other managed care-related companies and large physician networks, single and multispecialty groups and clinics. Volunteers must have expertise in managed care issues and the evolution of physician network arrangements in their communities and regions. Members of the program will serve in an advisory capacity, primarily by phone and mail, to help the Academy identify the impact of managed care on orthopaedic practices in cities, regions and states around the country. Orthopaedic surgeons from each state in the U.S. are needed to serve as volunteers.
