New service matches job seekers, employers

The AAOS brings job seekers and employers together with its Physician Placement Service. This is a year-round program that assists AAOS members in their search for orthopaedic practice positions and helps members fill job positions.

The service at the Annual Meeting is free to job seekers as well as employers who have already subscribed to the service, but there is a fee of $350 for those signing up to list a new job opportunity. Throughout the year, the service remains free to member physicians seeking jobs, but those submitting notices of opportunities are charged $350. At the Annual Meeting, the placement service is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Wednesday to Saturday, and from 8 to 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

It is the policy of AAOS to limit the use of the service to individual orthopaedic surgeons, medical groups and hospitals. Listings from recruitment firms are not accepted.

During the Annual Meeting, job seekers have a chance to meet face-to-face with those offering employment opportunities. Information about candidates and employees can be gathered at three Annual Meeting locations: at the Placement Center, located in Room 300 in the convention center; at kiosks throughout the convention center, which are linked to the message area in the Placement Center; and through a daily publication that lists job seekers and opportunity providers present at the meeting. Additions to this listing must be submitted by 3 p.m. the day before publication. The on-site recruiting program at the Annual Meeting is provided free of charge.

At last year's Annual Meeting, about 350 job seekers and about 350 employers used the service.

The service is the only comprehensive employment service for the orthopaedic community. Open positions are listed in a manual that comes out every three months, and the positions appear in a password-protected section of the AAOS web site, www.aaos.org, under Placement Service

Each potential employee listing contains the individual's professional status, preferred location of practice, subspecialty interests, practice types and availability date. The manual is published every three months, and these listings also appear on the AAOS home page www.aaos.org, in the Placement Service section. Users need a password to access the listings. If you have any questions, contact the Placement Service directly at (847) 384-4259, or (847) 384-4302. Or send an e-mail to member@aaos.org.
